What is your skincare routine missing?

Another step? What do you mean? How can we have a step missing from our already overwhelming routine. Believe me when I say, "You have got to be kidding me!" Let's be honest, no one has time, especially in the mornings, to add an extra step to the 10-12 steps we are already supposed to be doing every day.

If you are anything like me, you sleep until the very last second before you have to get out of the bed in the mornings. Who has time to do step one and wait, step two and wait, step three and wait and so on? I know I don't. If you happen to be blessed with a day where you are not running off to work, or getting the kids fed and out the door for school, and not to mention dragging them alongside you just to get them in the car, then the 10-12 steps are no problem. However, that is not the reality for the majority of us.

So, lets break this down to a functional routine that includes this important skincare must do. Our routine should look something like this:

1 - Wash

2 - Tone

3- Moisturize

4 - Sunscreen

Four easy peasy steps. And, on top of that, most of our moisturizers already have SPF in them eliminating but another step!

Did you notice the terrifying step that is so often neglected these days? Toner! Everyone remembers the stinging bottle of toner that left out skin dry and screaming for moisture. Toner was great, though harsh, in the 80's and 90's with our teenage acne prone skin. It helped with all those unmentionables that popped up overnight on our gloriously youthful skin. The great news is toner has come a long way baby.

Toner now is gentler with wonderful ingredients that nourish, soothe and restore our skin. Most toners on the market are alcohol free without all the astringent-like properties. It is a refreshing addition after washing. Most toners even come in a spray bottle that cuts down waste and no more leftover cotton on your face after wiping it down with aforementioned earlier toners. They are great for balancing, replenishing and protecting your skin from environmental stresses. Their main purpose is to remove any remaining dirt and grim possibly left after washing and prep you skin for your next products helping your skin to absorb and use them better.

The industry has incorporated nourishing, hydrating and soothing ingredients to our toners now. My most used toner is Thayers Facial Toner with Witch Hazel and Aloe Vera Formula, Rose Petal. It smells delightful. and it is light. I could forego my moisturizer with this one, however the sunscreen is lacking obviously. I have also found it to be a great staple to revitalize my face after work before heading out and about or if I just need a quick pick-me-up throughout the day.

Take the plunge and try a toner in your routine. You will not be disappointed!
